I remember that day clearly from years ago
When there seemed to be no end in sight.
Even sunrise seemed impossible
Couldn’t catch my breath, hard as I tried.
There were days when I felt truly all alone
And nights when I held myself so close.
I promised myself I would laugh again
Rebuild my world, my life and then
Know I had made choices as I saw fit.
Every word I said, every thing I did.
Not in rebellion, or unthinking strife
Not because I wanted to save my pride.
Things may seem shattered, broken beyond repair
And the walls may seem too high to climb.
But the good stays good and truth stays true
As long as you’re sure of your mind.
I promised myself I would laugh again
Rebuild foundations and create again.
Look to the future and plan again
And once more make myself a friend.
