New lines

Another year has marked it’s story on my face.
Pasted memories carefully in my heart’s crumpled page.
As I smooth questioning fingers, ever defiant
Remembered laughter fading softly into quiet silence.
Ghosts of joy trail beside haunted wraiths
Lovers kisses cover bleeding wounds in parade
Refuse to hide, bare of pride, eyes firmly held,
Ever forward, another year, yet another world.
Actors change, stories strange, pretend its new,
This time twill be completely different, they promise you,
Don the mask, join the dance, for this is life
While you draw breath, you get to be part of the lie
Another year will pass, another one will come in time.
Dust off old hurts, get ready with your new lines.
