In my daughters’ face, I see my eyes
Look back at me, Hope and defiance
Mixed equally As she tries
To tell me all about her life.
And even as I patiently try
To listen carefully rather than smile.
I know I’ll be the one who will wipe
Tears of sorrow when she cries.
It will happen, I know, and this is why
Nothing could match the dreams in those eyes.

My daughter’s eyes
